5.6 Milan GEM TV

GEM TV

Some time ago (via e-mail) I had the opportunity to ask Woller about their GEM TV software. Here is what I found out:

Q. Does GEM-TV need a 33MHz Milan 040 or can it be used on the standard 25MHz machine ?

A. 25 MHz is enough.

Q. Which TV cards are supported by the GEM-TV software ?
A. Hauppauge! Primio and Primio FM.

According to the British Hauppauge pages it looks like the TV-Go and Primio-FM cards have composite video inputs.

The PCI-FM(Nicam radio), Camera and Theatre cards also have s-video inputs.

Q. I would like to use one of the cards that has an S-Video input, is that possible ?
A. These cards have standard TV-cable- and composite video inputs.

Q. Does GEM-TV work with the PCI-FM(Nicam radio), Camera and Theatre cards or has it not been tested ?
A. At the moment, only the TV/Video-Features are supported by Woller GEM-TV.

Q. I would like to to be able to grab video clips from my camcorder through the s-video cable as the quality is a lot better than composite video. I don't know if the s-video function needs extra software support.

A. Maybe, if the card is successful, we (Woller) will add the other features too and also will check the features of the bigger cards.

Conclusion
It looks as though only the 2 basic Hauppauge! cards have been tested with GEM-TV and the software supports the normal tv transmission inputs of the cards and the composite video inputs.

Maybe someone is lucky enough to have access to one of the better Hauppauge! cards and a Milan could test it with GEM-TV ?

If the normal TV and composite video features work then maybe Woller might consider offering those cards in the GEM-TV package. This may enhance sales as the existing users will have an easier upgrade path if the GEM-TV software is enhanced later.

Has anyone tried the GEM-TV package ?

Peter
