9.15 OS9 OS9 Betriebssystem
OS-9 is a multi-tasking, multi-user operating system developed by
Microware for computers using the Motorola 6809 and 68000 cpu's. I've
used it on a Radio Shack/Tandy Color Computer and also own the Atari
version.
I would love to see an OS-9 based personal computer running at 500
mhz in a windowing environment. It would runs circles around any
Windows based computer. It still is called OS-9.
There were two ports to the ST I believe. One was done by
Reccoware Systems in Germany (rebadged and sold in the UK by Cumana).
The other was done by Microware, the company who created OS-9
(although this could also be a rebadged version of someone else's port
- I just recall seeing it in their price list a long time ago).
Somebody must have been naive or arrogant to call a os OS. :-)
But they didn't, they called it OS-9 (which originally stood for
"operating system for 6809" - it got ported to the 68000 and
other processors later).
There was indeed, and there even used to be an OS9 website related
to it. Can't remember where though.
