17.4 Atari -> Mac Macintosh und Atari Computer koppeln
Can Ataris and Apples share SCSI drives?
I certainly do! I use a Mac printer cable to do null modem
transfers between my Falcon and a PowerMac. It works very well
although it needs a bit of setting up. On the Falcon you need HS-modem
to allow faster transfers, CoNnect or a similar comms program. On the
Mac a fairly standard comms terminal program is needed, and I use and
recommend Z_Term. Of course you will also need a Mac printer cable.
Plug it into the Printer port on the Mac and the LAN port on the
Falcon. You MUST have HS-modem or you will not be able to select the
LAN port on the Falcon.
Use the following settings ...
Always have 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity. Always use Z-modem
tranfers, CRC error checking, 1024 byte blocks. That should give
reliable transfers. Also, make sure that 'Allow Multi tasking' in the
'terminal options' is NOT checked on. This means the mouse input is
suspended and the transfer will be 20-30% faster as a result (from my
experience).
Setup both computers the same. I'm not sure the reason why a much
higher speed is achievable when transfering from the F030 to the Mac
(15000cps is common, 4300cps is as good as I get from Mac->F030).
Experiment with the setup as your machine might work in a
different way to mine.
