1.0 GENERAL

This specification describes the detailed requirements for a 117 VAC 60 HZ version of a
switching power supply used in Atari computers.

Suppliers of this part must supply to the Atari Microsystems Product Engineering, Product Safety,
and Document Control Departments copies of all Engineering Change Orders on this product in
writing.

Vendor must supply an Electrical Schematic and Part List for this power supply.

Changes to this power supply affecting Regulatory Agency Approval status cannot be done
without the prior approval of  Atari Product Engineering.


2.0 INPUT ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
         
2.1 AC INPUT VOLTAGE:           90 to 129 VAC (RMS) 117 VAC Nominal
         
2.2 AC INPUT FREQUENCY:         55 to 65 Hz

2.3 AC INPUT CURRENT:           0.9 Amperes (RMS) for 117 VAC operation

2.4 MAXIMUM INRUSH CURRENT:     35 Amperes for 117 VAC

5.0 FEATURES

5.1 Short circuit protection:   All outputs are to be equipped with short circuit protection.
                                If any of the outputs become overloaded, the power supply
                                should switch off within 20 milliseconds, all outputs should
                                not exceed their limit.

5.2 Overshoot:             (5% of the nominal output voltage) at turn on and off with
                           the outputs not exceeding the limit.

6.9 Vibration Proof:       This specification and electrical characteristics of the
                           product can be maintained after being subjected to the
                           vibration with a frequency variation range of 10 Hz to 55
                           Hz at an amplitude of 1 millimeter, and cycle time of 1
                           minute for 2 hours in each of the X,Y and Z directions.

6.9 Impact:                     When packed for shipment, the product shall work normally
                                after a drop from a 100 centimeter height on each flat
                                surface of the shipping container.

7.1 Burn In Parameters:    24 hours at 45 degrees Centigrade (5 degrees Centigrade) with
                           power on/off cycling at full load and 117 VAC nominal line

16.1 MAXIMUM COMPONENT HEIGHT: 

ALL COMPONENTS ON THE PC BOARD OTHER THAN HEAT SINKS CANNOT EXCEED
THE LIMIT OF 31 MILLIMETERS IN HEIGHT.

16.2 INSULATION OF HEAT SINK: 

HEIGHT OF HEAT SINKS MUST NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM HEIGHT OF 43.78 MM
SHOWN IN PARAGRAPH 17.1, POWER SUPPLY REFERENCE DRAWING. IF THE HEAT
SINK HEIGHT IS GREATER THAN 43.78 MM, THE HEAT SINK MUST BE INSULATED
ALONG ITS UPPER MOST EDGE. IN NO CASE CAN THE HEAT SINK HEIGHT EXCEED
THE 43.78 MM HEIGHT LIMITATION. THIS IS NEEDED TO PREVENT SHORTING OF
THE HEAT SINK TO A METAL SHIELD ABOVE THE POWER SUPPLY.

16.3 FRAME GROUND REFERENCE:

The power supply must provide the option to connect the +5 VDC Output Return and the +12
VDC Output Return to frame ground.
