Atari TT030 TT/ST RAM Expansion Board Installation Manual


Kit Contents

Your Atari TT/ST RAM Expansion Board kit should contain the
following items:

     A TT RAM Expansion Board P/N CA401058.
                       or
     An ST RAM Expansion Board P/N CA40159

     Four (4) mounting screws P/N C301363-004
     Four (4) plastic insulating washers P/N C070613-003.
                       or
     Two (2) mounting screws P/N C301363-004
     Two (2) plastic insulating washers P/N C070613-003.

     Installation Manual P/N C301973

If any of these components are missing from your kit please
contact the outlet from which the kit was purchased.

Tools Required:

     Phillips screwdriver, head shaped like +
     Flat blade (slotted) screwdriver, head shaped like -

Installation

The following steps should be taken in order to install the
TT or ST RAM Expansion board in your Atari TT030 computer.
Carefully read each step all the way through before taking
any action required by that step.

WARNING: Failure to perform each step completely or skipping
steps could result in damage to the RAM Expansion board or
your computer.

Step 1

Turn off your computer and disconnect all cables from the
sides and back of the unit (e.g. keyboard, power cord,
external disk drive etc.).

Step 2

Turn your computer over and place it on its top.

Step 3

Remove the ten (10) screws located in the square holes on
the bottom cover and set them aside. See FIGURE 1.

Step 4

With a slotted screwdriver loosen the retaining screw
holding the Accessory Cover or Hard Disk in place.

The retaining screw may be covered by a warning label. If it
is contact your local Atari dealer for approval to remove
the label.

Loosen the screw. See FIGURE 1.

Step 5

**WARNING** Failure to hold the Accessory cover or Hard Disk
in place can cause damage to your computer.

Slide your fingers under both sides of the computer and
holding the Accessory Cover or Hard Disk unit in place turn
the unit back over and set it on the bottom.

Step 6

Tilt the Accessory Cover or Hard Disk assembly up. See
FIGURE 2.

Step 7

If a Hard Disk is present, remove the interface cable and
power cable from the Hard Disk. The power cable must be
pulled straight up and back toward the rear of the Hard Disk
assembly. Set the Hard Disk or Accessory Cover aside on its
bottom. (Cover up).

Step 8

Lift off the top cover and set it on its back behind the
bottom case. Be sure to take care with the cables attached
to the floppy disk drive.

Step 9

Locate the proper connector for either the ST or TT
Expansion Board. See FIGURE 3.

Step 10

Locate PIN 1 on the main PCB (FIGURE 3) and PIN 1 of the RAM
Expansion Board Connector(s). See FIGURE 4 for the TT
Expansion Board and FIGURE 5 for the ST Expansion Board. PIN
1 should always be on the left side of the connector. Be
sure the standoffs are in place with a flat side even with
the edge of the connector (See FIGURE 3). If they are not,
slightly rotate them with a pair of pointed nosed pliers
until they are. Install the RAM Expansion Board by lining up
the connectors with the pins pointing down and gently
pushing the board down until it is snug against the
standoffs.

Step 11

With a phillips head screwdriver, the head should look like
a + sign, use the mounting screws with plastic insulating
washers to fasten the RAM Expansion Board to the main PCB.
The mounting holes are located beside each connector.

Step 12

Put the top case back on the computer being sure that the
floppy disk cables are routed neatly and clear of any posts
in the top cover.

Step 13

Turn the computer back over and set it on its top. Fasten
the top cover back on with the ten (10) screws removed
earlier. See FIGURE 1.

Step 14

Turn the computer back over and set it on its bottom. Pick
up the Hard Disk or Accessory Cover. If a Hard Disk was
installed connect the interface and power cables to it. See
FIGURE 2. Be sure the red stripe on the interface cable is
to the left when you plug it in. Tilt the Accessory Cover or
Hard Disk back down into the top cover until it fits flush
against the cover.

Step 15

**WARNING** Failure to hold the Accessory cover or Hard Disk
in place can cause damage to your computer.

Holding the Accessory Cover or Hard Disk in place with your
fingers turn the computer back over and set it on its top.
Secure the Accessory Cover or Hard Disk with the retaining
screw. See FIGURE 1.

Step 16

Turn the computer back over and set it on its bottom. Re-
connect all cables that were removed. Install the TT
Diagnostic Cartridge and turn the power to the computer on.

If the TT Diagnostic Cartridge is not available take your
computer to your nearest Atari dealer so that diagnostics
can be run on the RAM board.

If you encounter any errors on power up contact the outlet
from which the RAM Expansion Board was purchased.

Step 17

If the TT Diagnostic Cartridge is available run the RAM (R)
diagnostic to ensure proper operation of the RAM Expansion
Board. If you encounter any errors while running the
diagnostic contact the outlet from which the RAM Expansion
Board was purchased.
