Dallas Office Memo To: Leonard Tramiel/Richard Miller From: Marty Pennock Subject: Soft-Logik Response to Problems with PageStream Date: October 31, 1991 cc: Sam Tramiel - SUVL Robert Shen - SUVL Stephen Chan - SUVL Sam Chin - SUVL Ira Goldstein - ATX Tom Ulaszek - ATX After having several problems with PageStream, both Jerry Smith and I attempted to contact Soft-Logik Technical Support to discuss possible fixes. I was able to establish contact with them on 10/31/91 and here is the result of that conversation. 1. PageStream will lose its place and lock up after 20 pages of text (NO GRAPHICS) have been entered. The file is from then on locked out and no further editing can be done. Furthermore, the file may not be entered again and all data in that file is lost, for all intent and purpose. I also indicated that the application was being run on a TT030. Soft-Logik responded by stating that they had heard of this problem and patches or updates were being done. No date or time for when they would be released. "Not for a while" was the official response. 2. PageStream will lose its place and lock up after 20 pages or so of GRAPHICS WITH TEXT RUNAROUNDS. No indication is given, the application just refuses to runaround text and as above, the file is then locked out and all is lost. I also indicated that the application was being run on a TT030. Soft-Logik responded to this problem the same as above. They had heard of this problem and updates or patches were being worked on. No date or time for when they would be released. "Not for a While" was again the official response. Page 1 3. PageStream does not work well with Ultrascript when using some special characters, as in TM, Bullet, and Registered TM, in certain fonts, such as Garamond, and even CS Triumvirate, which is the default font for PageStream. Also, some graphics created by DynaCADD will not import properly. These are IMG image files and GEM based drawings. The image files import but appear to be very light, of broken up. The import filter recognized the format of these graphics files, however. When printed the drawings are barely legible. The GEM files will not display or print. I also indicated that the application was being run on a TT030. Soft-Logik responded to this problem by offering to send a new Postscript driver. They also mentioned an Ultrascript Font Disk but made no offer to send one. They could not even find a registration number for our version. It was suggested that I contact Atari Sunnyvale and request copies of this font disk. Please make note I am now making a formal request for the Ultrascript Font Disk for PageStream. So far this covers the total of problems encountered with PageStream. It is my wish to make you aware of these as they will certainly cause a problem for any of our customers using an Atari system for DTP. Sincerely Marty Pennock Page 2
