Dallas Office Memo To: Maxie Smith From: Marty Pennock Subject: SLM 605 With SLM 804 Documents and Old Drivers Date: October 31, 1991 cc: Sam Tramiel - SUVL Leonard Tramiel - SUVL Robert Shen - SUVL Sam Chin - SUVL Stephen Chan - SUVL Ira Goldstein - ATX Tom Ulaszek - ATX I recently received an Atari SLM605 printer which included documentation for an SLM804 printer. Putting the printer together was pure guesswork. Moreover, the drivers supplied with the printer were old SLM804 drivers which did not work on an Atari TT030 using Word Perfect. Toomey Freeman had a copy of the updated drivers he had received from Sunnyvale and I installed them. This allowed me to print files from Word Perfect and also to access the emulator. If our SLM605 printers are shipping this way it could cause serious problems in the field. One, with the lack of proper documentation, and two, with the installation of the old drivers on a TT030. We had tried for two days following every instruction according to the documentation on the installation of the drivers and emulator for the printer to get it to work with Word Perfect. Nothing short of using the new drivers seemed to fix the problem. Worse yet is that the existence of new drivers didn't seem to be documented anywhere. Hopefully bringing this to your attention will help in solving this problem. Sincerely Marty Pennock
