8.6.1 BlowUp Hardware BlowUp Hardware
Well, if it's the same product, I *used* to have Blow-up Hard 1 in
my Falcon. It's a little hardware device that plugs in somewhere on
the mother board and terminates in a switch that you use to switch on
the higher clock frequency. Coupled with some software it allows you
to expand your screen resolutions. It will work with both RGB and VGA
video.
With RGB, you can get a decent true colour resolution, although I
normally use a SVGA monitor. My standard resolution was 880 x 640, 16
colours, 72Hz refresh. Bear in mind that you are still using the main
processor for producing graphics so the system slows down
considerably. That resolution provided a speed equivalent to an ST in
high resolution. However, run it at 800x600 in monochrome, 75Hz, and
the Falcon really flies and with no flicker!
I was also able to get a 1024 resolution in monochrome, 800x600 in
256 colours with either interlace or 60Hz refresh.
I believe you can get it without the hardware mod which means you
won't be able to get as high a resolution because you're only using
the standard clock frequency.
Blow-up 030 sounds like an improved model. However, I recently had
my entire motherboard replaced and asked for Blow-up not to be
transferred, as I have got an Eclipse card on order.
