3.6.1 Stacy Hard Drive

Change STACY Hard Drive

The following is based on my experience with my STacy. If anything is not clear feel free to e-mail me for clairification.

Others will tell you to take apart the screen cection in order to have more room to work but I prefer the "keyhole" approach:

1)
Remove the 6 screws from the bottom and 2 screws from the back.

2)
Carefully release the 4 clips that hold the keyboard section together ( 2 of them are located just above the handle mounting points, the other 2 are approx. 1/3 of the way from the front to the hinge ).

3)
Carefully lift the top half off while prying the face-plate arroung the eject button on the floppy.

You now have just enough room to move the to halves arround to get at what you need.

4)
Remove the keyboard.

5)
Remove the 3 screws at the front of the shielding and bend all the tabs straight.

6)
Carefull remove the shielding ( after removing the shielding I cut it back away fron the wires for the screen to make it easier next time ).

7)
unplug the internal powersupply from the motherboard.

8)
unplug the screen connector from the motherboard and the screen grounding screw ( it is one of the HD mounting screws ) set the screen section aside ( Now you have room to work ).

9)
Remove the floppy, swap hard drives and put it all back together again.

The last time that I did this it took me 45 min but unfortunatally the drive was dead so I had to remove it again.

Parity..

Wenn die getauschte Festplatte von der STacy unter keinen Umständen erkannt wird muß die Paritätsprüfung der Festplatte, mit der der Hostadapter der Stacy, wie wohl auch der Hostadapter des MegaSTE nicht klarkommt, Softwaremässig abgeschaltet werden.

Da dies aber bei neueren Platten oft nicht mehr über Jumper, sondern ausschliesslich Softwaremäßig schaltbar ist, muß die Platte vorher an einem echten SCSI-System, z.B einem Atari TT oder Falcon anschlossen werden um mit z.B HDDriver Parity abschalten zu können.

Über einen DMA (ACSI) Hostadapter geht es nicht!!

Der Regel nach ist man Erfolgreich wenn man die Festplatte in ein externes SCSI-Gehäuse steckt und an einen entsprechenden Computer anschliesst. Bei geeigneten Tools kann das auch ein Macintosh oder ein PC sein. Beachten sie bitte das alte interne Atari SCSI- Controller oft kein TermPwr liefern und die SCSI-Geräte daher nicht korrekt Terminieren!

Wie man TermPwr nachrüstet finden Sie im Artikel Zip-Drive in diesem Archiv. Generell funktioniert das bei jedem SCSI Hostadapter.

Harddisk Treiber

In der Stacy ist der gleiche Hostadapter eingebaut wie im MegaSTe, er ist nur noch ein Jahr älter. Um hier etwas ändern zu wollen sollten sie stets die Originaldiskette zur Stacy parat haben.

Verwenden sie in der Stacy nicht die Original-Festplatte ist von vorne herein mit Problemen zu Rechnen. Richten sie daher eine andere Platte stets mit diesem Treiber ein:

AHDI 3.01 aus dem Jahr 1989 so wie HDX 3.02 aus 1986,1987 oder 1988,1989.

Diese spezielle Version ist auch für die heute sicher nicht mehr im Einsatz befindlichen Orignal Atari-Festplatten SH104 und SH204 so wie SH205 gedacht. Der Treiber eignet sich auch direkt für die Megafile 20, Megafile 30 und Megafile 60 Festplatte und sollte verwendet werden wenn andere Tools versagen.
